Christmas Vacation, 2010, part deux

Our trip to Florida has been rather uneventful. The weather was SUPER yucky the beginning of the week so we hunkered down in the hotel and didn’t do much (like 30s and super windy, which I realize isn’t very cold, but it was cold since I didn’t bring our winter coats…)

Wednesday I was invited to go on the official wives’ trip to St Augustine. We got to have lunch and do a trolley tour of the city, and then we had some time to shop. That night I met a friend for dinner (Hi Amy!); it was awesome to eat and not have to tell someone to not tip their cup with a straw, and to stay on their bottom, and no you can’t have frocolate milk, etc.

Yesterday I took the kids to the Jacksonville Zoo – Mallory got the movie Madagascar from Santa so her new favorite animals are zebras…and luckily we found zebras. Mallory’s favorite thing ended up being the train and the playground; but my favorite thing was when the kids got to feed the giraffes lettuce! I didn’t take my camera with me to the zoo (HORROR OF HORRORS!) but trust me that it was super cool.

The kids also went in the water yesterday – Mallory is good on her own, but I had to sit on the edge of the pool and hold Carson by his hands/arms while he splashed & played. I should have just jumped in but I wasn’t sure how I’d get all three of us warm in towels when we got out of the water (the water was warm but the air was CHILLY!).

Today is beautiful – the kids & I ran drove over to the stadium for picture day and Carson had fun seeing the field (and Mallory was the grounds crew police, making sure Carson didn’t step on the semi-freshly painted parts of the grass). I realized it would be hard to be a photographer in Florida – while you get lots of warm weather days to take pictures, it would be tough to deal with that sunshine (and harsh shadows) every single day. ;-)

These pictures crack me up. It’s like a little Jon Falk…

I made Rick pose with us in front of the “Gator Bow” sign in the stadium (apparently our photographer didn’t think to tell me to move over. Oops).

Neither kid wanted me. Nice.

This afternoon we hit the pool again, luckily with Rick in tow so he could swim with the kids. We are going out for a kids-free New Years Eve dinner tonight – and then tomorrow it is football time…and the first day of 2011, which is the year my baby turns five.

Hold me.

  1. Holy $hit she is NOT allowed to turn five. Carson turning two? PERFECTLY okay with me. 16 more years.

  2. You are so blessed, enjoy while you can, you think the years go by fast now it only goes faster as we get older…..
