I feel old

April 29, 2016

I’m old. Not really OLD old but I feel like I’m old for having a 1st grader still (compared to my son’s friends’ parents). But most of the time I don’t really feel as old as I am. I remember being little and looking up to my older cousins (who are like 15 years older than me). When I was like 10 and they were getting married I was like OMG they are SO old (like 25?). And then when I was in college and my cousins were married with kids and I’d go visit them and think OMG they …

Henry Hall – 26 years later

August 16, 2014

Earlier this month, the kids and I finally were able to make the reunion weekend in Ludington with a group of my friends from freshman year at Western. We all lived together in Henry Hall and though I haven’t been great about keeping in touch, thank goodness for Facebook and for Susan for continuing to host this fun weekend.
We got there Thursday night and the kids wasted no time getting in freezing Lake Michigan – even though I forgot Mallory’s bathing suit, she just went in in her shorts & shirt (she really does love the water!). I couldn’t dare …

Minnesota – October 2013

October 20, 2013

My children still love going to football games. We did have that one glitch where Mallory wanted to know why her friend got more staying home days than her, but that was because there had been like 5 home games in a row, and then we did two away games in a row, and Mallory was burned out. But that was so 2011.
These days, the kids are awesome. They are great at the tailgates because there is tons of junk food and Carson can play football down the hill. We can watch the team come by in their busses two …

Out of retirement

October 28, 2012

I came out of retirement this fall to play hockey again. A friend asked me to play and I said I could play the home games only and they said yes so I signed up. Our team name is the “Mag-a-ritas” and Mallory asked me if I play on this team because I like margaritas. Um, sort of…maybe?
Both kids, Rick, and my mom and dad came to my game tonight. It was pretty fun having them all there and hearing the kids yell “GO MOM!!!” and “GO MAG-A-RITAS!!!”. I learned, however, that it is a good thing that …

My running diary

April 28, 2012

I am doing the Couch to 5k running program again this spring. I don’t have any races on my calendar but I have this crazy idea that I might want to do the Disney Princess Half Marathon next February (how else can I convince Rick to take us to Florida in February?). I am not crazy enough to think that I can actually run 13.1 miles, but I do think I can walk/run/jog 13.1 miles in under 3.25 hours so I might try it out.
Today was week 7, day 3 of the program. I had a 5 minute warm-up walk, …

First Day!

April 2, 2012

Things I need to remember before saying things to Mallory.
Mallory turned 5 last November. Before I left for work on her first day of school after her birthday (which was on a Sunday), I made a big deal about it being her first day of school as a FIVE year old!
Fast forward to this morning, as I’m walking out the door for work, Mallory gave me a hug and kiss and said “Have a good day! It’s the first day that you are going to work when you are FORTY-TWO!”.

Shenanigans

March 12, 2012

Mallory did the Shamrocks & Shenanigans race again this year – but this year she upgraded to the Kids’ 1K race, and Carson did the Kids Dash.
Carson talked about it ALL WEEK, asking us constantly “WHEN DO I GET TO DO MY WACE????”.
He was also pretty excited to do it with his buddy, Becca. Becca just turned three. Carson looks like a giant compared to her. Carson was concerned that Becca didn’t have “fast runner shoes” like he did (she had regular boring pink & brown tennis shoes, not white & blue like his).
They lined the kids …

My new work

February 9, 2012

So – this new job I just started this week. Mallory had been asking a bunch of questions about my new job and my new job friends, and last week I drove by where my new office is so she could see where it was.
On my second day, I participated in a walk-thru of some buildings on the athletics campus. It was pretty fun because as we did our inspections, I got to see Biggie and Bonnie and Hutch, and the volleyball coach and Mallory’s dance teacher and Riley’s dad.
I had to the tell the story a million …

Busy

November 10, 2011

So, we’ve been busy. Thus the lack of real posts lately.
Here’s a summary of what’s been going on.

Mallory had a ruptured eardrum and RAGING ear infection a few weeks ago. (I’ll probably blog about this some day because it wasn’t one of my favorite parenting moments).
We went to the football game at MSU and we lost. (I probably won’t blog about that).
Mallory’s two bottom teeth continue to get wigglier and wigglier. She still believes that she isn’t allowed to lose these until 1st grade. (The pediatrician even noticed that Mallory had loose teeth because they are getting …
