My sweet boy is so not like his sister in so many ways and when it came to learning to ride a bike, it reminded me of this again.
Carson had told us that he didn’t want to learn how to ride a bike until he turned 7. But when I told him that once he learned how to ride a bike, we could ride bikes to Dairy Queen (I wasn’t interested in suffering through a trip to DQ with him and training wheels and hills).
DQ was the trick because he let me take the wheels off on Sunday night. It only took me running along next to him for about 10′ and he was off on his own. But then I remembered all the trips Rick made up and down the street helping Mallory learn how to ride on her own and realized maybe it was really dumb to encourage Carson to learn this skill. But after me sort of ignoring him once because I was talking to the neighbor, he figured it out quickly (thank GOD).
I am not ready to do the DQ trip yet – he isn’t tackling the little hill in our neighborhood yet so he has to conquer that before we go get his DQ reward.
Rick was really mad that I let Carson figure this out while he (Rick) was at work/football camp. But if I waited for Rick to be home to witness this, it would be December and it’s not fun to ride a bike in December. Sorry Rick. At least I got video!
One bad thing about Carson learning to ride a bike is that now it is crazy obvious that Mallory *really* needs a bike upgrade; she’s still on her first bike and her knees almost hit her chest!
