Hi.
Yes, it’s been a while.
But I’m still here.
It’s been a crazy week.
First – the Super Bowl – asked Mallory if she wanted to watch football and she told us “NO – I only like the tailgates”.
Then Rick & I headed to New York City for my Christmas present getaway. The trip was fun and not so fun.
Tuesday was fun – walked around the city, went to a taping of the David Letterman Show, had dinner, saw Chicago on Broadway, and stayed up way too late, even though we were kidless.
Wednesday was not so fun. NYC was under a winter weather warning, which was then upgraded to a blizzard warning. We were supposed to fly home on Wednesday, but due to the weather in NYC and the weather at home (southeast Michigan had just gotten slammed also) we weren’t sure if we were going to make it home. Which then caused me to stress about (a) flying in that weather; and (b) scrambling to make arrangements for our kids to get watched for a second night (and all the stuff that came along with that – making more bottles for Carson, packing breakfast & lunch for both kids, etc). I know my mom & dad would & could have figured it out but it was still stressing me out. As more & more flights were cancelled out of LaGuardia airport, the more sure we were that we were going to be stuck another day but our airline hadn’t canceled our flight yet so we had to make our way to the airport. I had the idea that I wanted to take the subway at least once when we were there so we rode that out towards the airport and then planned to find a cab for the rest of the way. But there are no cabs out in the “boros” so we walked 8 blocks through the blizzard to find a car service that would take us to the airport (after the driver laughed at us because we wanted to go to the airport since that was all but shut down).
(Somewhere on this cab ride I decided to leave my iPhone in the cab.)
Got to the airport and somehow our flight took off in the blizzard and got us home safely to our sweet babies.
Letterman was pretty fun – the guest was Jennifer Garner – and Chicago was cool. I’d never been to NYC before so it was all a little overwhelming. There were more people out on the streets at 10.30p at night than there were at 6p. All of the hustle & bustle was a huge culture shock for this Michigan girl, who can’t deal with the backups at the one stoplight in our little downtown!
But we are already planning another trip for summertime – we didn’t do Central Park or really do much sightseeing because of the weather. Hopefully there won’t be a blizzard in July.
Reports from my mom & dad were that the kids were fabulous while we were gone :-)
