Well, we’re heading back north tomorrow. The weather is just starting to warm up here (I actually put my toes in the pool today) and from what we can read, the temps are dropping big time back home. Outstanding!
Today was my only full day with no classes or anything. Mallory decided to start the day off with a great big bang and went PEE-PEE on the POTTY! Her night-time diapers have been almost dry the past couple of nights; this is a big deal because we buy the super absorbent Huggies overnights and 99.9% of the time they weigh 10 lbs because they are so full. So when her morning diaper was dry, I suggested the potty. We have been trying this on & off for a few weeks ever since she went pee-pee on the potty at school but have not seen any production…until this morning! It was just a little tiny tinkle but I almost did a cartwheel I was so excited for her (and us)! I made Rick get out of bed to come check out the pee in the toilet (he was appropriately impressed). She got some potty fweets and we went on our way. I should add that she tells us almost immediately when she goes poop so we can change her diaper, and just the past couple of weeks she is getting better & better about letting us know when she goes pee (and she usually will walk around with her legs spread open until we change her diaper which is hysterical and embarrassing if we are out in public). The biggest new thing, though, is her insistence on having her diaper changed *right away* when she does go #1 or #2.
Anyway, so Mallory got a couple of M&Ms for a potty fweet this morning and then she & I headed downstairs to find some breakfast. Oh wait, I have to tell you that when we started to wake up this morning, I rolled over to say hi to Mallory (who had just found her way to our bed) and I said “good morning!”. She said back: “Good morning to you!”.
Ok, so went to breakfast; they had a great buffet with waffles and omelets and tons of fruit. On our way to the buffet, she found a booster seat and brought it to our booth all on her own. And after we ate, she took it off the seat and put it back where she found it. Why doesn’t she do that with her toys at home?
After a quick run through the pool and an abbreviated nap, we got to go to the Aquarium with Papa & Nina. We got to see a little penguin show which was basically a penguin on a red carpet who kept coming back over to Mallory the entire 15 minutes of the show. The guy doing the demonstration tried to redirect the penguin so the kids on the other side of the room could get a look at the penguin but every time he put the penguin down on the other side of the red carpet…waddle waddle back over to Mallory.
We did get to see the sharks and a lot of other fish – and a whole tank of clownfish. Mallory didn’t quite make the connection but there was a little boy who ran up to the tank yelling “LOOK – THERE’S NEMO!!!”
We went to dinner after and then got the obligatory “we are on vacation so we (ie Mom) is allowed dessert” ice cream again. It was great that Mallory was able to see her Papa & Nina so many times on this trip since we don’t get to see them very often. They are planning a trip north this spring after Arlo makes his/her appearance.
After they left, and before we got Mals jammied up – we had some MORE PEE-PEE on the POTTY! That’s TWICE in one day! Here’s hoping that we really are on track with this – it would be so fabulous to not have to buy diapers for two kids at once! After some potty fweets, the girls got our pajamas on and she climbed into the big bed to cuddle with me. She got herself turned around and this is how she fell asleep. Rick was cracking up at how she ended up since he seems to think I have a lot of gas (I SWEAR it’s because I’m pregnant).
I think I did too much again today because my tummy has been feeling really tight all day. I need to take it easy until we get home and I see the doctor on Monday. I’m hoping that once we are home and in our normal routine that things will calm down.
Reports are that Cooper is doing well with his buddy Barkley and has been sleeping with Bryce every night. Coops is in for a rude awakening when he comes home and has to sleep on the floor again!
Okay, it’s late and I need to get to bed. I have a bunch of other pictures but am too tired to do the necessary editing to get them posted tonight.
Awwh how sweet. I wish I could get her to come stay overnight with us.
She is so adorable and we had so much fun with her. I can’t wait to see her and “Arlo” in the spring.
