Mallory, travel

Trip update – January 21

Only a few more days left of our trip. Today is the last day of classes for me, I have all day tomorrow off and then we head home on Saturday.

I had the entire afternoon of yesterday, and got myself a fancy pedicure to start the afternoon off. As I was paying for the pedicure, I noticed that the spa offers a prenatal massage…wonder if I can talk Rick into letting me get one of those tomorrow?

It was a little chilly here yesterday and after a failed attempt to get Mallory to take a nap, we headed to the playground. It was cold enough that we had to have our winter coats on so that was mildly annoying. Aren’t we in freaking Florida??

We played for a bit and then headed to a group of shops and restaurants just up the street. We came across the Aquarium and since it was so close to closing time, we were able to walk right in and spend about 20 minutes checking it out. I wouldn’t mind going back on Friday and seeing all of the exhibits but I’m sure Rick will veto my plan (or will want to wait until 4.30p and get in for free again). By that time Mallory was getting super grumpy – probably hungry & tired – so we found a place to eat dinner. There was a nice steakhouse right in the complex near the aquarium and we decided to eat there. It was early enough that even if Mallory was a disaster, she wouldn’t bother too many other diners. She ended up being really good during dinner (the bribe of ice cream after helped) and ate about 1/3 of my filet, and some mashed potatoes and green beans. She just kept eating and eating and eating.

One of the funniest things about going out for a meal with Mallory is that as SOON as the waiter/waitress comes to the table, Mallory says “I like some NILK”, even before the person asks us what we would like. It’s pretty funny.

Anyway, we ate dinner and then checked out Coldstone Creamery. DELISH. We then made our way back to the hotel. There was another Lightening hockey game last night so all sorts of activity going on outside the rink and a bunch of people. There are beer vendors and souvenir vendors and they show the game up on the side of the building outside the rink. A way different atmosphere than Joe Louis Arena where people are in a hurry to get the hell out of the cold.

Rick was carrying Mallory through the crowds and she started singing SUPER loud “Q R S T U V, W X Y Z NOW I KNOW ADC NEXT SING WIV ME!!!!!!” over and over again. It was a little embarrassing because she was singing it SO loud but Rick & I were laughing at her too much to tell her to keep it down.

Her impetigo seems to be improving. The spot on her back is still pretty gross and oozy but the ones on her lip have already crusted over and the scabs fell off this morning so now we just have two big red spots on her lip again. My sister (the super-smart-nurse) said that the medicine Mallory is on will clear up the impetigo really fast. That seems to be true with her lips, but not yet with her back. I hate to cover that one up with a band-aid, since you want it to air out, but I can’t help but wonder if the cream isn’t working so well on that spot because it rubs off because of her clothes and/or diaper?

Okay, off to relax for a few minutes before my last afternoon of classes starts. Keep warm!
