Guam Trip, Mallory, travel

We're back…

We are back to the frozen tundra…and it doesn’t seem as cold as I expected it to be when we returned to Michigan. Mallory was SUPER GREAT on the plane trips today, she slept for 2/3 of the first flight, and about 3/4 of the long 12 hour flight. Rick & I felt like super parents because she was so well-behaved!!

Mallory was SO excited to see Cooper – she was giggling and screeching when he got home from the dogsitter’s, it was so cute. She was exhausted from our long day of travel, even though she slept so much…she even fell asleep in the middle of dinner.

Just like on the Orlando trip, I learned so much about Mallory by spending so much time with her. By the end of the trip, we had her signing “more”, “eat”, and “milk” consistently, the word “help” is becoming more clear, and she has added “kin-KEE” (stinky) and “nigh-niiiigh” (night-night) to her vocabulary. She has also started to nod and shake her head for yes & no. Watching her nod is pretty funny – she sometimes moves her whole body to get her head nodding.

I did some reading on the history of Guam – Guam was placed under administration of the US Navy in 1899. But in December of 1941, Guam surrendered to Japan and the people of Guam were under Japan’s rule for 31 months until 1944 when American Forces liberated Guam (read about it here: http://www.guam-online.com/history/history.htm). I really had no idea what all that history was before we went to visit! Of course Rick & my dad dragged us girls around the island to look at different national parks.

Rick & I are barely keeping our eyes open catching up on The Apprentice. Gotta go.
